Verbal contract for sale of boat?

I have this vebal agreement over the past 3 years for commission on the sale of my friends boat. I was promised 10k if i put an ad on a site/sites and sent/received emails /calls and conversed with prospective buyers on is behalf. Over the past 3 years i have made numerous calls and sent many many photos and emails. And have lined up many buyers. Just last week the boat sold . He reinterated that i would be paid and he wouldnt let me down as promised i would get my money. Over this past 4 years i also was dating his brother. Things turn sour this past 6 months more so as he is a high drinker. after considerable thought i left this relationship and have had over 100 texts and calls to come back. the brothers did not get on. back tot he contract...i was paid 5k and waited for the remainder to be paid the next day (last friday). never came. sunday (last night) i received a nasty text from the owner saying i was lying to him about my relationship with his brother and i will not receive the other 5k. i have witnesses for dealings with the brother and his drunken antics etc. This i believe should have nothing to do with the verbal contract the owner of the boat had with me. What can i do about this???|||Unfortunately... Nothing...

You should always... ALWAYS get it in writing.

You can try to take it up with the court. But without any proof of the agreement you probably wont win =/ Sorry...
