Definition of "not for sale to US citizens while in US waters"?

I've seen this in advertisements for larger boats for sale. What does this mean ?|||It means what it says "Not for sale to US citizens while it is in US waters" Most likely either the papers or the condition will not pass US safety inspection.|||It means in order to dodge US taxes they'll only sell the boat to a US citizen from a non-US port. As in, you're rich enough to fly to another country to buy it. And then set up a shell company in a non-US country in order to register it. Then have the staff onboard deal with moving the boat in/out of US waters frequently enough to avoid running afoul of various other restrictions.

In short, you're rich enough to not care about the costs involved, but too ******* greedy to pay your fair share of taxes.|||Bill K is sort of right, IMHO. Generally, it means that there is a lien on the vessel and/or the boat will not pass class or Port State Control inspection in the US as it is. Here in the US we're really interested in the toilets on ships. Crappers that pump directly over the side without an approved MSD (meaning the septic manufacturer bribed the Coast Guard for type-approval) in the system will get the ship seized by the Coast Guard FASTER than a hold full of heroin would.

The other issue here is oil, too. We're insane about oil. A non-working oily-water separator or a direct-overboard discharge line from the bilge (called a 'magic pipe') will also send the Coast Guard into a tizzy.|||Just TAXES problem.

seller and new owner go to bahamas and sale/buy the boat
